HONG KONG, CHINA, 1999 FEB 11 (NB) -- By Staff, IT Daily. Ascend
Communications [NASDAQ:ASND] has unveiled its Max 800 WAN (wide
area network) Access Switch, which enables telecommuting, Internet
access and branch office connectivity.

The Max 800 was designed for medium-sized offices or remote offices
where support is not always available.

The switch offers PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card
International Association) technology and supports both analog and
ISDN BRI (integrated services digital network basic rate interface)
calls.

The Max 800 enables users to simultaneously use any combination of
telecommuting, modem dial-out and Internet access, and to configure
their own bandwidth. The system supports speeds of up to 512 kilobits
per second (Kbps), and allows mobile users and remote offices to
access information on an office local area network (LAN).

The switch can be installed, configured and managed remotely using
NavisAccess, Ascend's network management application.
