Get qualified to buy calls in your IRA and you will have the substantial equivalent of margin in it! If your brokerage firm does not allow options in an IRA, you could switch to Brown & Co. or Dreyfus, which do.

Or options: my IRA has options but not margin, I wonder if its regulation of some sort. But you can do sort of the same thing with calls: buy DELL calls on a day like this and sell them when DELL (and the calls) go back up.
