Just recently went long on CSCO and new to this thread. Happy to be here. The following is a Credit Suisse analysis of CSCO of 02/09/99. I didn't check back on the thread to see if this information has already been posted so I apologize in advance if it has. Jeff

Cisco Systems (CSCO-$101 15/16-Cap $161B-STRONG BUY)
Paul Weinstein,
Enabling The Wireless Internet - Untethering IP FY99/00E: $1.47/$1.91
* Cisco & Motorola annced long term, strategic agreem't to provide wireless
Internet services based on an IP architecture. Key points - it provides open
architecture which accelerates 3rd party support and helps address Cisco's
wireless deficiencies; we view it as mild positive for the stock.
* Consistent with Cisco's strategy of integrating voice, video and data across
IP infrastructures and challenging vertically integrated models of the past;
Cisco desperately needed to address wireless traffic as growth rate well in
excess of wireline traffic and penetration rate much lower; deal not exclusive -
architecture will support Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm, etc.
* Deal highlights the possibility of opening up wireless apps shifting them from
voice and small messages to richer content data apps and possibly video.
Derivative impact is IP architecture will require more intelligent handsets,
mobile devices, etc. and could accel wireless data deployments.
* This was an architectural announcement (delivering products/services by Q4)
and somewhat thin on product details; participant claims support for this
architecture from Nextel, Sprint, Air Touch and BT-Cellnet; substantial Cisco
design wins not likely to materialize before H2:00.
