I'm guessing the UBID specs for the Alps printer was a typo and should have read "IEEE-1284" instead of just "IEEE"
the IEEE-1284 is just a regular Bi-directional Parallel port.
I doubt very much it would be firewire.

Reading from tom's guide, the IEEE was founded by Apple, known as Fireware, Fast 1394 bus. Microsoft hadn't embraced it as of tom's printing. Sounds like a different port than Parallel. Hope it works.

Yall are confused. The IEEE is the Institute for Electronics and Electrical Engineers. Its an international standards body and organization that does work in most any aspect of electrical or electronics engineering. IT WAS NOT FOUNDED BY APPLE or any other company. There are thousands of IEEE Standards...

IEEE 1264 is the standard for what is commonly known as Centronics Parllael Interface.

IEEE 1394 also known as firewire is another. This technology was actually developed and first promoted by Texas Instruments...

Other popular IEEE Standards...

IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet)
IEEE 802.5 (Token Ring)
IEEE 1076 - (VHDL)
IEEE 1364 - (Verilog)

There are thousands more.

The MD-1300 has a parallel interface not a fire wire interface. Firewire despite being available for 5 years has not taken off....

hope this clears up some confusion...
