Technology stocks and interest rate concerns had earlier in the session led the stock market lower.

Technology "blue-chip" Dell Computer Corp. fell sharply as concern arose over the company's fourth-quarter revenue growth. The stock was down 10 at 91 as hopes for a blowout quarter dissolved.

"Is Dell a main reason? I think so. There's a lot of uncertainty there and it's hitting the technology sector," said George Rodriguez, senior vice president at Guzman & Co.

"There's still that insecurity about earnings levels," Rodriguez said.
