Capitol Building Evacuated- Bomb Threat

Filed at 1:53 p.m. ESTBy The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police ordered the Senate chamber, galleries and many offices evacuated today shortly after the Senate acquittedPresident Clinton. Senate
aides said they were told there was a bomb threat, though one official said a suspicious package had been found. Minutes after the impeachment votes, the Senate
abruptly went into recess and senators left the chamber. Tourists, reporters and others observing the proceedings were ordered to leave, and security officers
began searching the chamber and corridors. Senate offices on the second and third floors of the Capitol were also being evacuated. The Senate chamber is on the
building's second floor. nytimes.com
