I think the matter concerned much more than merely Hillary. It concerned Clinton's image as president-- no small consideration. I think everyone realized what was going on. Nevertheless they also knew that regardless of one's personal circumstances, one does not have the legal right to use lies as a defense against another American in a court of law.
