St. Simon (hey, that man IS an island<g>), if Goldwater were running today ... it'd be a miracle ... no, that's not what I wanted to say ... he'd win by a landslide. Forget the Patsy twins (Robertson and Buchanan), the GOP will field someone who can win. Personally, I'd like to see a Kemp/Powell ticket if Jack would put himself out there again. Would settle for Kemp/Dole or Kemp/Bush. Even a Bush/Dole ticket would crush Gore/anyone.

BTW, I give more credit to Greenspan than Rubin and the Republicans can certainly recruit a Rubin equal for his post.

Yes, it's been a "golden age" and the indexes remain overinflated, but I consider the amount of air that has come out of the bubble stocks without the rest of the market collapsing to be a good sign. Things may not be as "golden" as they have been, but neither will they be as black as you seem to think. We seem to have dodged the recession I was certain a year ago was coming and now any recovery in Asia and other recessionary corners of the globe will have a dramatic effect on US corporate earnings.

JMO,
Bob
