I disclaim authority regarding the procedural details, and I believe the general sequence of events is that either or both of King County or the City of Seattle would have to successfully (1) deny renewal of the franchise, or (2) block the franchise transfer in one of several ways. Most scenarios lead to an formal hearing process, the details of which have been linked to in earlier messages here.

Resolution would take quite awhile, I would think.

Meanwhile, new policies would be made behind the scenes.

Seattle City Council is considering doing with TCI completely and providing cable as a public utility as does the city of Tacoma just to the south of us. There are pro and con arguments about that ... but if the bottom line is that TCI is not going to complete the buildout here anytime soon, then we'll just do it ourselves and they can go fly a kite. Remember, this is Seattle ... throw a rock and hit a network engineer or someone who thinks they are.

Is there anyone here from Tacoma? Do you like your $9/month cable?
