Chuzz,

You said:
>>>4. He then goes on to estimate that y/y revenue growth will slow to 39% in January '99. But if that were true, then total revenues would be $17.009 BB for FY '99. But by my reckoning we have already booked $13.069BB so far (not counting Q4), and even if we take his lowered estimates of $5.2BB, that would yield $18.269BB for the year, or a 43.4% y/y increase. <<<

I think that 39% is derived from y/y rev growth on q4 at 5.2b. This would then give year-end revenue growth of 48.2%

You know what part about that model I really like? Dell has sold more computers sequentially since q1 98. They've sold an average of 200k more computers each quarter. When that streak ends, I may start to get worried.

Regards,

VC

Hey Pussycat,

re: << So back to the question I first asked: where does he get his numbers from? >>

Apparently he pulled 'em out of thin air (or out of his ass). Is there anyway to see if his firm was BUYING today ???

Regards
Ross

>>There are other discrepancies in his comments as well, but rather than nitpick I would simply say that he does not provide a model (in spite of what the text claims -- you must check the date), nor does he justify his "beliefs" with data, nor does the ominous phrase "management guidance" appear anywhere.

So back to the question I first asked: where does he get his numbers from?<<

The entire charade was orchestrated to create a carnage in the tech sector since yesterday the Nasdaq was up 96 points. What better way to create commissions and margin calls then to pull this stunt off with Dell just two days before it announces the quarterly earnings. You create a panic on a Friday since many will want to be in cash over a weekend. The market is closed on Monday but foreign markets will have their down turn for whatever. This is another example of racateering and turning investors upside down shaking out their pockets. The statement make by Niles had no substantiation what so ever but his firm knew that if you make a negative bias it will far out weigh any positives. It seemed that nothing today could soften the blunt of Dell's fall. I think that investors of Dell should seek a way to even the score. The targeting of Dell rather then any other major tech player was carefully done to bring on today's drubbing. People think that you ride out the bumps and allow the manipulators to play their games. I wonder how many people today lost a major part of their life's savings or were forced to meet margin calls?? Everyone who is an investor in Dell should be mad as hell and want retribution. It may take a couple displays of horrendous and horrible happenings to stop these criminal tactics by manipulators. I predict that one day we will read about it. I do have a feeling for human nature and just how far you can push the limit before something gives. Those bastards who pull these crimes off think that they do not have to pay any consequences for what they do. They are robbing you and me just as sure as if they broke into your house and took your goods.
I wish more people would wake up and realize what is going on here. You have to hit them in their pocketbook like they do us.

Frank

Thank you for this great post. If Dan Niles is right next Tues,
Dell probably leaked info out to Niles and Smith Barney; if he is
wrong, then he is just full of it. My gut feeling is Dell leaked
this info out intentionally. I really hope I am wrong.
