Ken,

I am living proof that decent profits can be made trading stocks without paying a cent beyond commissions. I am on a Mac, so most of the software that is being sold I can't use anyway. I have yet to subscribe to anything beyond a free trial (many of those). As you know, I use only free Web sites for research. And 1998 saw 70%+ returns in 8 months of trading, and so far this year I am up 22% real money, and 28% including my papertrading.

Have things settled a bit at home, by the way? I know that you have responsibilities tearing you in several different directions.

FWIW, I have come across an excellent subscription service that gives very reliable signals. It requires only about an hour of monitoring at the open. After that, it is an automatic system (using limit/stop orders). I have papertraded it for 6 weeks (free trials!), and have backtested their past 7 months' performance. They claim an average return of just over 200% per year for the last 3 years, and from what I have seen, this is minimum. I've also had lengthy conversations with them on the phone to get a sense of their system. I may subscribe myself just to keep a steady income coming in while I continue to papertrade various versions of the BTTT system. If interested, PM me and I will give you the link...

TC.

PS: I do give my "thumbs up" to the Candlestick site (http://www.litwick.com/). There is much to be learned from this Eastern way of approaching the markets. There is great eduction on the thread, as well as reliable analysis. I would recommend the 30-day free trial. And it's only $10 per month after that to join. I am waiting to see how their picks hold up.
