I take it you're a cone-head, eh? :-)

Well, yes...I'm familiar with the concept, the paper, and the author.

Am I a believer?

Don't know. What's far more important (to me) is what's actually there. The geological theories are interesting reading for someone with an interest in geology, and I love both reading and geology...but what's interesting to a miner and an investor is tonnage.

Let's put it this way. This is the persistance theory again. Maybe take a gander at your Winspear map. We're going to play battleships!

I call out K-11 (14 times) and you reply..."You have a hit on my minesweeper."

Well, gee! That's a good start.

I call out K-12 (4 times) and you reply..."You have another hit on my minesweeper."

I smile. And call out J-11 (38 times) and you reply, "You have a hit on my cruiser."

I grin. You seem to have all your ducks all lined up in a row.

The game goes on. I-11 hits a destroyer. So does I-12. I go fishing north and east L-12, L-13, I-14, L-16, J-13. More hits. No misses. No glancing blows either...they're all good solid hits from my thundering 15 inch guns.

So now your entire fleet is peppered. The game's not over yet, but I've certainly crossed your 'T'.

You know...and everyone watching knows...that in short order I'm going to call L-11, L-14, L-16, K-13, K-14, K-16, J-14, J-15, I-13, I-15, and a slew of H's. And I'm going to get a lot of hits.

Then I'm going after your southeastern fleet.

When you're totally defenseless, if I'm truly 'loaded for bear'...why I might rape and pillage your civilians. Send some long holes into L and K-17. Just to see you crap your shorts. :-)

At just under a million tonnes per call...I've got a lot of tonnage. I've inferred this, rather reliably, because of the consistency in the results.

And all without mentioning cone sheets...just by playing battleships.

It doesn't matter what bizarre geological theory you want to invent to describe it...it's there. Contiguous with a high degree of probability.

Mention some new, off the wall theory some octogenarian created and the layman will be leery to say the least.

Advice for the layman:

Look at your map and play battleships in your mind. Keep the Winspear news releases of September 21 and October 14, 1998 handy.

Then tell me what you think.

And...when the next guy snorts, "Screw the off-the-wall theory, I only believe in reality!" Well...you'll have your own idea of what's real and what's an illusion. Without need of a Phd in Geology.

Fifteen or fifty? That depends on whether the thinning out of the dyke over the 'I' range is a trend or not.

Fifteen or fifty? Does it matter?

After you have a suitable handle on what *you* feel reality is...then feel free to develop a theory to describe it. :-)

One might be more accepting of cone-heads at a minimum! :-)

I am.

Cheers, WillP
