ajbrenner, re: "are we talking stone tablets ..?" Since we're talking about AMD, perhaps Aspirin tablets would be more appropriate.

I can not fathom how AMD managed to build a competitive product, beat the Intel monopoly out of some prime turf, and still bleed red ink. When people were spending gob-o-bucks on PII/450s to surf the 'Net, AMD couldn't get its message out. And when they finally looked to have a good Christmas, Intel cut Celeron prices and AMD ate dust.

They can't win for trying and they aren't trying hard enough anyway. If AMD really cared about its shareholders, it would invest all its free cash in INTC calls and then exit the CPU business.
