I like Discover (Morgan Stanley Dean Witter) for shorting, the downside is that short sales via their web page auto-reject on fast-moving stocks. The good thing is that you can usually get them with a phone call, expect 1-3 minute waits. Yamner.com has a good rep, you may have seen Steve Goldman pop onto this and other threads. They're fast, two or three rings max. Several local traders have been with them for years, very satisfied, slightly higher comissions, good trades can make up for that. The top-of-the-line is www.cybercorp.com for the pro day traders if you've got the hardware, connections and resources. Lots of other ones out there, I've got a link somewhere that rates them, will post when found.
