Marden - I believe this answers my suspicion that a high chip
rate in W-CDMA is not feasible. ( I was wrong )


Without extensive models of amplifiers, modulations schemes, ... . It is very difficult to know how hard it will be to implement a given chip rate. Even in a worst case scenario it is technologically possible to chip at 4.096, but the battery draw, cost, ... would be prohibitive. I.E. it's a trade and almost certainly they do not get the full performance benefit of the difference without some significant costs. Just FYI.
