***Value Internet Investing?: These are dangerous waters here that we are wading in. I feel that we are dangerously close to breaking some key support levels in many of the Inet issues. Not that these support levels represent any sort of technical valuation point but instead, levels that may represent key resistance on any uptrend should these current levels be breached on further weakness. I believe we are at the levels now where, in the past, many would see as a fundamental bottom, thus representing a buy side trigger. While this still may be the case for some of these Inets, this is a vastly different market than what was. Remember the correction from not even a month ago now. This revaluation is still fresh in the minds of Inet investors, and fundamental strategies have changed. I believe now, more than ever, extra caution must be used when choosing your momentum Inet plays over the next few weeks. Normally, you hear me speak of the first tier Inet Cos. as representing, perhaps, the best value for the money. During periods of weakness, though they may correct to the extreme, they will also be the first to be rewarded with strength when money returns. At these levels, within the current market, I am no longer willing to throw the dice at these lofty valuations. Many first tier Inets are beaten down to "attractive" valuations and can be had for a fraction of the typical YHOO, EBAY, BCST or AMZN. Volume still remains the key for these issues, but in the face of any lengthy decline I find myself looking further into broad scope of business and sound philosophies. Lets face it, fundamental attractive valuations are rare currently in this sector but where a majority of the analysts see nothing but red, I would encourage the aggressive investor or trader to see, instead, different shades of red. I will not give specifics here for the issues that I like as far as relative "value" plays, but will give ideas to consider that I feel worthy of your DD time. All of these issues have some connection with the Internet and are "attractive" based on relative performance, price and potential. Consider the following issues for position plays or aggressive trading strategies: (In no particular order, except BKS) BKS - My single best idea for 1999. Ideal combo of brick and mortar storefront and Internet based delivery. MLG - Much the same as BKS, but still relatively undiscovered. But is starting to get noticed. DRIV - Broad based Inet business, solid plan and management. Questionable margins. PCNTF - AOL of ASIA as they have recently been described. Vastly under-realized potential to what "could-be". If they start to realize that potential, AOL take-out? AOL=MSFT of the Inet CYCH - If they get penetration, could be huge. At current support at this level. Questionable competition and standards yet to be defined. I see a fair amount of near term upside. ONSL - Superior site. Great implementation and plenty of upside potential. However, very dangerous position and has recently broke low end support here at 38, and today at 36. Would stick strictly with a trade until bottom has been found. Recent earnings were unspectacular with the exception of visits/hits and fair revenue. ATHM - Class act. Period. Loved them at 40, still love them at 100. Best Short Term Inet Play: NAVR - No doubt in my mind where this issue is going when they get there IPO act on the road. The NetRadio IPO will prove to be one of the most successful of all time and is arguably the most awaited IPO...... mostly because it has also been delayed the longest. Although the delay has hurt the price of NAVR in the short term, the savvy aggressive position trader will see this as the opportunity of a lifetime. I believe this issue to be currently at 1/3 of what we will find it on the day of the NetRadio IPO. Those with patience should see tremendous value here.
Internet issues will remain mainstay of those nimble, aggressive, investors with the stomachs and skill to trade them. But these issues above should also do well for those position players with day trader tendencies ..... what I find to be the best, and most rewarding, way to play the Internet game. Please stay alert, and trade well. Trader J
