Cirrexlover, Denying AMd sucess is all paul can do. Unfortunatly the stroy comes form a man speaks loose talk, speculation and Raw unfairness toward AMD. In short he is an Intelapolition whth a high approval rating in the Intelapolls. good article further indication that Itel is on the ropes.

Cirruslvr,

Regarding the article you quoted. I noticed a technical problem with the text. That would give AMD 33% faster memory and lower latency in memory-access time.

A faster bus will do very little to enhance memory latency. Latency is determined by the fundamental speed of the DRAM, and running the interface at a higher clock rate will not affect this. Faster busses were more important when the L2 was on the far side of the bus.

The advantage that a faster bus offers is higher peak bandwidth, and there isn't much value to that either for most applications.

Cringe-A-Lot - Re: " Why don't you count the six months you are talking about. You have stated numerous times that the K6-3 was supposed to come out in Q4. "

I have consistently repeated what AMD HAS PREDICTED - Sharp Eye release in the second HALF of 1998.

SO, today it is 7 1/2 months late or 1 1/2 months late or 6 months late. Take your pick.

But IT IS LATE !

In the meantime, ASPs have gone down so Sharpy will come out at a lower price than it would have had it been introduced last year; and Intel is introducing the Pentium III next week, the DIXON (a Sharpy equivalent) was introduced 1/25/99 , Mendocino was introduced 7 months ago.

As for Merced slippages - sure they hurt Intel.

Just as AMD's slippages hurt AMD.
