TT, I expect some of those top tier vendors thank their stars that AMD exists and will give them sustaining share to keep them alive. With no AMD each and every one would be paying $300, or more extra per CPU, or more.
Many commodity businesses see the value of alternate suppliers, even those at non competitive prices, and will make sure AMD eats, why should the CPU business make any difference.
Do not forget that there is a saving with AMD chips in addition to the cheaper CPU prices, although the slot 1 dodo will soon be one with the dodos and it's premium will vanish.
