OK, I'll trust you on the backwardation. I'd like to see the exact definition printed somewhere (I'm a world-class skeptic), but I know this event happens.

Logically, it would be reasonable to expect farther out futures to sell for less than close ones if the market is bearish on it. So I don't see how that could be so rare. Am I missing something?
