Normally the "first in / first out" rule applies. However, you can sell any block of stock you have purchased, regardless of date, if you specifically tell your broker to sell that block.

You can tell your broker which ones you want to sell...I've done that before.

In my case however, the first and third set of CMGI was purchased thru one broker and the second thru another one...I hold the latter.
