VerticalNet, which was founded in 1996, has yet to turn a profit.
Nevertheless, its low-cost business model is expected to begin generating
revenue as advertisers line up to take advantage of VerticalNet's easily
identifiable audience.
VerticalNet Chief Executive Mark Walsh said the company plans to use its IPO
proceeds to make acquisitions and expand its core operation. "We are first and
foremost building more and more communities and growing our base business,"
Walsh said.
The latest in a line of Internet start-up chiefs made overnight
millionaires, Walsh said VerticalNet could link up with one or more of its
customers through some kind of transaction, the nature of which remained
unclear. "The 33 individual industrial verticals that we run today all have
natural partners," he said, "some media companies, some distributors, some
manufacturers. So I think you'll see (VerticalNet make) a number of deals with
different types of companies in each of the industrial vertical marketplace

If one takes a look at SCTC's price around the 23rd of dec...That was when SCTC announced they may not get the contract and the stock tanked. They are trading at p/e of 17-18 with the industry trading at 35-40.

I'm not planning on selling into everyone elses' selling.

I have mostly call options out to May, not too worried, some longer term value here.

I also didn't know that SCTC already warned that they wouldn't get the contract.
