(...Even a hint of anything less than perfection automatically leads to a gravitational event... )

VP Gore claims that Clinton is less likely to resign than to be hit by a meteor. I think that 'less than perfection' is a lock, when should we expect the automatic 'gravitational event'? -g-

It isn't a forum, it's a love-in. The fervour and devotion reaches religious proportions. They truly come to worship

Earlie, I generally only lurk there, but I tend to agree with you. But, really, what would you expect given the stock's performance the last 5 years. Not much negative going to talk about.

Dell is an excellent marketing organization, but plugging components into a motherboard and screwing a few boards into a chassis isn't high tech.

DELL does have some technology expertise, but without question, it's not a high tech outfit like a LU or CSCO, or even a CPQ. But, they know how to make money building PCs like no other.

As an interesting exercise, go to the IBM Patent Server homepage (all patents issued since 1971 in the US) and search on DELL.
patent.womplex.ibm.com
Not as sparse as you might think. BTW, most patents there for DELL are issued to man named Terry Parks. I worked with him at IBM early in my career. Probably the most brilliant engineer I've ever met. Then, do a search on Terry Parks. Perhaps the most prolific inventor in the US in the last 10 years. Currently, the chief architect of the IDT Winchip. Not really relevant to anything, but interesting, nonetheless.

As a consequence of the above, I think "Big Dan" is right and we said so much "earlie-r" than he did.

Just when did this thread go bearish on DELL? A little to early, I think. Short term puts may certainly pay off here. But I think long term bears will be disappointed.

Earlie,

whoa, no kidding. <ng>

you said ...

<<Any time I want to ascertain the degree to which the term "investor" has
sunk, I skim that most remarkable thread. It isn't a forum, it's a
love-in. The fervour and devotion reaches religious proportions. They
truly come to worship. I add no (g) because it truly frightens me>>

from the Dell thread, linked by Antoine ...

<<Is there anything that was said by the analyst who bad mouthed Dell that
is libel?? The assault on Dell was made two days before earnings causing
a catastrophic carnage in the stock??Can we bring about a class action
suit??>>

this is surreal. what's gonna happen when this thing breaks hard down? what are these guys gonna say when this trades under $20?

Peter

Cann't agree more. As a matter of fact, for quite a few years, Dell spent little on R&D, and they are taking a free ride out of the companies like HWP, IBM, and even CPQ.
