Good Morning Glenn! This is a little tidbit from the Cpq thread. It helps proves the theory that Cpq is pissing off their distributors in a effort to compete with Dell. I find the same in my local Comp USA store. >>"I was in the local CompUSA two weeks ago, killing time before picking-up a friend at the nearby airport, at the back of the store looking at monitors when the conversation between a salesman and customer peeked my ear--such that I went over to listen. The customer owned a small business and was shopping for 3 laptops and wanted advice because, as he admitted, he knew nothing about laptops and which brands should be considered, and which avoided. The salesguy told him there were only two companies who'se laptops he should even consider, Toshiba or IBM. He went on to say that **all** the computer magazines rated Toshiba the best laptops on the market, far ahead of all the others in quality, dependability, and customer service. IBM, he said, was a distant second. The customer pointed to a Compaq, which was right beside where they were talking. The sales guy said that although CompUSA had to sell Compaq's and other laptops, he would never sell one to a customer without first letting them know why he thought they were making a very, very poor decision. I remained silent, just stood there. When he started in on his, "believe me," stuff, how he has to keep up to date on reviews because of his job, I made a comment, just having read a review of laptops in _PC World_ the night before. Innocently, I said something like, "Excuse me, but PC World rated a Dell laptop number one and had raves about their # 2 rated Gateway laptop." The customer turned to me and asked for _my_ opinion. I told him I would buy a Compaq laptop because I held shares in CPQ. Then I told him if I was in his shoes, I'd probably base my final decision on warranty and customer service from the laptop vendor since he would probably be happy with the laptop itself from Toshiba, IBM, CPQ, Dell, or Gateway. So, if Toshiba is the number 1 seller, at least in one CompUSA, it is also the number 1 laptop being pushed. As an aside, not **one** of the regular Compaq PCs was turned-on the evening I was in the store."<< AEOB D.
