Lots of us are rightly excited about the launch of Spyhop next week, looking at it to become a wildly popular search site/portal on the internet. That's cool, but IMO it's not the main story behind Wordcruncher. We're all consumers and internet users, so it's easy for us to understand portals like Yahoo, Excite, Lycos, et al. Not to discount the revenues from advertising that that would bring in, I do think it's transient, and won't last forever. A lot of the "internut" companies depend for their revenues on selling each other advertising that nobody reads; it's kind of like a whole town trying to survive by doing each others' laundry--there's cash flow, but no wealth created, so in the end it's a zero sum game.

However: what Spyhop will ALSO do is demonstrate the power of Wordcruncher to IT managers, document management OEMs and other decision-makers who would license it for their companies' use or resale. The real potential for this company is if Wordcruncher becomes the search engine of choice for large, in-house corporate document management systems for intranets and extranets. From what I've seen of the product, Wordcruncher has the potential to be that. That's where the company will get its long-term revenues and sustainable, profitable growth. Crunch.

I emailed the editor about a few weeks back and asked him if he knew anything about wordcruncher. He hadn't even heard of it at that point. This is a guy who runs a site solely focusing on the latest search engine stuff. If he doesn't know about it, think of all the others that don't. As much as the interest in this company has been growing over the last month or so, its only just beginning. Good things comin.
