In hindsight I'd say the real sign was given by Abbey J Cohen (GS's poster girl for bulls), when she said reduce your portofilo from 72 to 70 % equity, I think that was the equivelent of yelling fire to the folio mgrs. End result has been institutional buying has dried up (strong opens followed by selling during the day on weak volume), however individual investors don't want the party to end and are behind the rallies. Bottom line market is attempting to correct. We'll see how it play's out. Everything I've read has indicated to strong January effect with softening in mid Feb and the prediction of a bounce back in April. In my mind the big question is Y2K effect (both on Psyc and buying patterns of tech product such as software, hardware etc) as we enter this summer and into 2000. The year 2000 may turn out to be a nuclear winter for certian companies (ie how many software companies are selling Y2K upgrades as the main follow on component to their core product and what happens when that's done)? As in the case of corporate PC's, how many companies have upgraded ahead of Y2000 and how will this effect demand in the next year? It's my understanding more and more dollars will flow into pesonal/programing cost's at the expense of discretionary hardware as we approach the end of this year. What happens in 2nd quarter 2000 to companies whose main product is programing services?
