The logic behind the "potatoe story" is ridiculous -- but obviously is convincing enough for the average Brit. Any of the GM companies could engineer a toxic potato just as easily as one with enhanced nutrition. Just like a drug company could engineer a toxic drug...it would never get released.

However, this aspect of the story is NOT what is being presented in some of the UK rags.

Yes, genetic engineering allows you to put good or bad traits into a GMO. Hybridization and selective breeding has done that for years...obviously this is taken for granted at this point. Yes, chemistry allows you to put good or bad medicine into a pill.
