Given the competition from IBM/Compaq and given what most experts see as a slow down in the 2nd 1/2 of 99 from corporate America in hardware purchaces (Y2K effect) DELL is heading into some rough water ahead.

This is just the beginning. It ain't just domestic competition. You can't ignore the Asians. There is a Korean PC import hitting the retail stores soon called e-Machine, that for $500 comes with a 333Mhz K6-2 chip, Win98 and a small hard drive (3.2 gig). Apparently using Asian machines, some internet providers are already experimenting with free computers and monitors for signing up for a $20/mo internet account (3 year min). Dell is going to get squeezed from both the high and low ends of the market as pc's become even more obviously just another commodity.
