CSC TO PROVIDE CONSULTING SERVICES TO U.S. POSTAL SERVICE El Segundo, Calif., Feb. 2 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) has been awarded a professional services ordering agreement by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to support the development and implementation of enterprise-wide information technology solutions for its payroll portfolio. The potential value of the agreement, awarded under the provisions of the USPS' "Preferred Portfolio Partnering Agreement," is $198 million if all options are exercised over a nine-year period of performance. CSC was named an approved vendor under the USPS' Preferred Portfolio Partnering Agreement announced by the Postal Service in May 1998. The Preferred Portfolio Partnering Agreement is a government purchase approach instituted by the USPS that fosters a partnership between contracting parties to work as a team to maximize benefits. As the prime contractor, CSC will provide comprehensive business consulting and information technology services to improve the payroll and benefit function of the USPS, one of the world's largest employers with a payroll of almost one million people. Specific tasks will involve business process reengineering, software selection, applications development, systems integration and deployment, and specialized applications such as Internet solutions. Supporting CSC in this project will be Litton PRC, McLean, Va.; KPMG Peat Marwick, Washington, D.C.; and Atlantic Duncans International. These firms will provide additional strategy consulting and information technology services. "CSC is pleased to partner with the Postal Service in delivering world-class consulting and payroll experience to enhance the competitiveness and day-to-day operations for this most important service organization," said George Bacon, a partner in CSC's consulting group. So far in the company's fiscal 1999, CSC has announced $4.6 billion in U.S. commercial, federal and international contracts. In addition, the company has been awarded a large contract from the Internal Revenue Service to modernize the nation's tax system. Established more than two centuries ago, the U.S. Postal Service fuels the nation's economy and delivers hundreds of millions of messages and billions of dollars in financial transactions each day to eight million businesses and 250 million Americans. With more than 38,000 post offices, the USPS handles 41 percent of the world's mail volume. It is the nation's largest civilian employer with more than 850,000 employees.
