I was entirely expecting the precise spin you placed on my honest expression of a part of my humanity, and chose to publicly acknowledge that I have those feelings anyway. I think it's best to be honest about such feelings toward brutal murderers, not only because it is always best to be honest, if you can, but also because supporters of state executions often think opponents of it don't experience the same emotions as they do. They imagine that if my child, for example, were murdered, I would feel less horror and hatred toward his murderer than they would. This is not true. I am not and do not claim to be kinder and gentler in my feelings toward brutal behavior than you or other death penalty advocates are. I hate it. If someone killed my child, I would want revenge, and might kill them myself. I am capable of hate.

Your position now is, if I understand it, that those of us who oppose our state sponsored rigged executions, and feel it is an important, justice-related issue, are likely "fighting feelings like this." You say you are "now beginning to understand an essential difference in our feelings about the death penalty," Christine? And it is that I am fighting violent feelings, unlike you, who are only "looking at it from a biological point of view-- survival of the species"?

I think we have another contradiction here, Christine. Do you really get to say you are "NOT" going to make this personal, and then effectually switch the subject from the reality of the death penalty to intimations that my psyche is rather less noble than yours?

I think it would be better to reply to the specific points I make in my posts on this subject than to psychologize about those who hold my position.

And I think if you look in your heart, and read your posts, you will see that much of your language regarding those who are selected for execution comes from that place in all our hearts that is capable of hatred. I think it's human to hate. It's all right. It's part of us. It's also human to try to do what's right, I think.
