It looks like MSFT is going to develop an alternative to Java.
I think they realized that SUN wants too much control over it. Sun can cancel MSFT's license at any time.

Its not a black, bottom line item, and is not significant at the moment.

But it is a red bottom line item. And if these properties were somehow tracked as a separate unit, it would be right up there with significant net players below YHOO but above folks like GNET. So is it really a disadvantage to have them dragging down the big bottom line picture at MSFT if they don't add value to the stock? Or is their possible future value worth the cost?

I don't think we factor it in at all. Its not a black, bottom line item, and is not significant at the moment. The software is where the money is.

It looks like internet investors are back into their stocks again. I think the ones that get scared off might start considering MSFT as an alternative. Their PE is pretty good along with some "unearned revenue" which has not been factored in. The fact that speculative money is out there makes me feel pretty good about the market.

BTW-Did you see those Prodigy Net commercials making reference to AOL's pop up menus. That is why i hated AOL's internet service not to mention it was slower than AT&T in my region (i guess it may vary ).
If i ever invest in a net stock again--it may be Prodigy. Maybe i will stick to the ones that have made me money.
