THREAD: I went to a meeting today at my alma mater, and we had an opportunity to speak with the chief IT person.

They're constantly upgrading their computer systems on a 4 year cycle to the tune of about $600K per year in budgeted uprgrades. They have started outfitting state-of-the-art classrooms with 30+ workstations using Pentium II chips.

The entire campus is linked with a fiber optic ethernet system that transmits at 10 million bits per second. They've replaced all but one of their mainframes with client-server systems.

Almost all students have their own PC, and each dorm room is wired with ethernet to the main network.

The campus is served by a host of T-1 lines connecting it to the rest of the world. There is only one department ("the hold-out") using Macintosh computers.

My question was but one..."Who is your vendor for your PCs, workstations, and servers?" The answer was one company... Can you guess which one????

Best Regards, and Very Rich Grins,
