Jim: Re your short MDY and long SPY or SP Index fund. I took January 8th as a start date and the MDY has gone from $73.5156 to $68 and my Schwab SP500 index fund has gone from $19.67 to $19.00 in that time period. If I had done the trade I would have netted approximately 5% annualized return on a $10,000 trade in a little over a month. Not much to get excited about but better than what I actually did in January.

I am trying to figure out how many additional $ if any this trade would give me to add other positions. I know that if I hold my SP500 fund for 30 days I can use it for margining other positions but does the short MDY offset this additional buying power?

Thanks Dennis
