I'll also add that the MC5 and Iggy and the Stooges really set the stage for later punk. I'm not totally sure, but I believe these bands were started in the late 60's. I'm glad Iggy Pop lived through it all.
He's a great performer, even now. And if you want to look to the origins of the grunge explosion of the late 80's early 90's, look to the Sonics.

I took a look at the link you suggested. Yes, some late 60s bands could be considered proto-punk. One of the bands that heavily influenced the punk scene was the Velvet Underground.

BTW, that link that you posted got disabled by the software I use to block Web advertising (WebFree 1.1 for the Mac) and I had to reconfigure my software. Even though the link was for www.threeweb.ad.jp, putting the magic words "web" and "ad" together in the same HTML tag triggered the ad blocker! (Yes, I know, damned leftists trying to view Web sites such as Yahoo without seeing all the ads that help pay for the business costs... In case you're interested in the opposition to advertising you might want to check out adbusters.org )
