Chris told me yesterday that he read in the paper that a gay group has been claiming that Tinkie Winkie was gay for months.

But, you never know, maybe something weird is going on, rememember PeeWee Herman? The kids used to watch his show, and it was so weird, and then he got caught whacking off in a porno theater.

I am very turned off by Falwell, and every other televangelist I have ever seen. Chris uses a German phrase for them, "scheinheilig," it's a combination of "schein" = "shine" and "heilig" = "holy," but it means having a phony holy saintly look. I don't think Falwell is charismatic at all, I think he is so fake, but that's the way I feel about Clinton, too. And I really liked Reagan, so maybe you shouldn't trust my perceptions.

I agree about Grodin, and I do like Tim Russert, but my least favorite is Geraldo, and my most favorite is Chris Matthews on Hardball. Tim Russert is more polished, and more polite, but Chris Matthews stands up to people when they spout BS.

Tim Russert? Hmmmm . . . I know this will sound shallow, but I like commentators/news guys who are easy on the eyes the best, all things being equal. Brian Williams on MSNBC falls into that category for me. I find Sam Donaldson not cute but very amusing and brave in the questions he asks. This Week on ABC is my favorite weekend talking head show, mostly because of Bill Kristol, who is conservative but extremely intelligent, and seems much more compassionate than George Will. As far as ridiculously over the top, the new McLaughlin show on MSNBC is a total hoot.

Does anyone remember Arthur Kent, who reported the first Iraqi war in the early nineties for NBC, from that roof in Baghdad? He had fairly long dark hair, was attractive, and wore a leather jacket? He was the first guy that my daughter and I both agreed on was to die for. The memories of us huddled in front of the tv together waiting more for his face to appear rather than to hear the latest news became even more strange when I heard last year that he was gay, which is just fine if it's true, but raises serious doubts about my ability to zone in on raw masculine heterosexual energy. I guess it was the jacket that did me in!
