I am not sure how government got into the picture though. <G>

You had already mentioned conspiracy. Government had to be mentioned next. ;)
Now, we just need to mention SEX and out sweeps-week ratings will skyrocket!

Re: Bob Young and So why this same rights are denied to other people?
*Boggle* You are free to download the entire RedHat CD (with no charge), add any commercial program you want to it (wordperfect, etc), and resell it as G_M10/Linux.

There already are distributions that mix commercial apps and Linux
openlinux.com
One distribution has even been integrating it's own commercial desktop GUI (CDE). If you think that these commercial apps and desktops would be of better quality than what you can get from RedHat, then you should try them out. Tom can pitch MetroX and Applix to you, if you need some pointers.

The difference between the companies is this:

RedHat allows Metro-X to intergrate the RH distribution with its Metro-X X-servers, and resell the result... with no pre-arranged business deals or royalties.

Metro-X will not allow RedHat to integrate MetroX X-servers into the RH5.x products without making special arrangements and paying royalties and RH trusting MetroX not to release bad products in the future (because they have no access to the source or permission to change it).
