John, good post! I agree with everything you said except the part about one analyst's call making the stock tank. Niles didn't make the stock tank, Dellheads panicking did.

John:

You are talking apples and oranges. DELL is a proven company with track record in revenues, earnings etc where as internet companies keep loosing money and they are here today and are gone tomorrow. DELL is here to stay for decades with super service, products...etc

GO DELL GO!!

John, re:"Dellgate..."

I think they BOTH make good stories. I never said the internet stock story is not compelling.

Also, do you really think this is a case of sour grapes? I don't. I believe in adhering to the rules of the game. An analyst that made the type of comment he did, when he made it, in the context of his prior comments and with his house-of-cards proof appears to have possibly violated the rules of the game.

Releasing his warning only 2 trading days before the facts are made public makes his comments appear self-serving, blatantly competitive with the source of facts themselves, of questionable value as an analyst and excellent value as a short-term trader disguised as an analyst.

Also, as opposed to the internet story which is compelling in and of itself, my angle, like my post says, is to use subversion (see my prior post) because the story would be perceived as sour grapes on it's own.

Jon :)
