So now gold is more valuable because it is the lesser of two bad investments??

Well, I guess I'll go along with that.

But at least you can still live in that house while your making the payments based upon previous value. It still has utility.

But gold is not something that the common person can derive utility from, except as something shiny to flash in the sun (ie: it won't feed me, keep me warm, or run my car).
