KIS, Apple bought Power (actually forced Kahng to sell for $100 million) because Apple coundnt beat Powers efficiency. Until that happened, Power was the fastest growing computer company ever.

In Apples defense, they were stuck with R&D costs and Power was clearly engaging in "cherry picking". Kahng didnt pitch himself that way initially to Amelio - he said his target mkt was sub-zero. He then proceeded to build workstations and servers.... meanwhile Apple retaliated by changing the terms of the license agreement.
