John: In England the swallows migrate to Africa during the winter and return in the spring or early summer. An old English saying is that if you see one swallow in the spring don't jump to the conclusion that summer has arrived. Whole flocks of them have to arrive from Africa. So, one Dell swallow arriving on COMPAQ's shores may not signal that wholesale churning from DELL to COMPAQ is happening, but it may be a harbinger (a harbinger is old English for "messenger" often used in the plays of William Jefferson Shakespeare.)
