Happens in the Darien province of Panama as well.

Except the Indians there seldom bought fruits or vegetables. They were more interested in the canned and manufactured goods that came by ferry/barge that ran the Bay of Panama every 3 days or so from Panama City. That was before FARC moved in. Don't know the frequency of trips now.

There wasn't much reason for them to buy natural foods when they were growing in abundance around them.
