<<In my mind it is a gamble to hold DELL at 60 times book in a contracting PC market, in which the only segment showing significant growth is low end, which DELL doesn't do.>>

This has been the argument against Dell for years, yet the stock continues to appreciate.

Barb,

Dell has come in at below the lowered revenue estimate. Sadly I didn't short yesterday, Dell is too unpredictable and I was afraid they would pull a rabbit out of the bag and proove everybody wrong again.

What do you think of them going forward. They are undoubtedly a good company, but so is compaq and the rest of the competition. No-one can keep growing at 50% indefinitely. Especially since Compaq is now selling over the internet at actually lower than Dell. I just bought a new consumer model at almost $200 less than the equivilant Dell (AMD chip instead of Celeron only major difference).

Will Dell guide next quarters earnings down tomorrow? Even if they don't I'm sure forward estimates will be lowered.
