Re: LSI and ASIC houses, any transition away from them is likely to be very gradual. They could end up converting themselves to something closer to the fabless-partnered-with-foundry model, for instance.

This is precisely what LSI is beginning to do with Mint Technology, and the business is going like gangbusters.
