Neocon, 1) the Korean war was a conventional war. One country invades the country of our ally. Hardly different than WWII. Hardly different than Bush's Gulf War.
North Vietnam's commitment of conventional invasion troops grew slowly, in [some] tandem with our increases. The major "invasion" was irregular troops. A loose analogy is to Clinton's odd, and scattered, commitments of troops
2) I am not convinced enough of your arguement on Clinton's trade, but I must back down on my own interpretation. There was good sense to me in the theory that Clinton was "selling out" to regain his shattered administration. I admit, the obverse of that coin is much as you just said. Thanks for 'bringing it back home'.
