AOL Instant Messenger

If you don't like that irritating little man on your taskbar, there is a way to remove him.

If running Windows 95, I believe you can right click on it, and go to properties or settings. On the Setup tab of the program, I'm pretty sure there is an option to have it not pop up again. Can't remember for sure what it's called. Keep pluggin away at the options for it, and you'll see what I mean.

I'm still cheezed at Netscape for that move :)

steve,
The file you are looking for is call "AIM.exe" Follow the directions below and you will find this file, it's not in the "programs startup menu" but in another start menu hidden away. snerd gave me the information as follows;

Doug... Sometimes I make it harder than it has to be. There's an easier way to do what I described earlier. There's a little known tool in '98 that makes managing the startup programs really easy. Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information. When that comes up, look on the menu bar for "tools", then "system configuration utility". When that comes up, go to the "startup" tab. This will show you everything that runs at startup. Simply "uncheck" anything you don't want to run at startup, then reboot when it asks.
Good Luck,
Doug

steve,

don't know if that file is the aol instant messenger program or not.

regarding a "little yellow man" icon in your task bar...

have you tried right-clicking on it? often, the resulting menu selections will give you an exit option, that then may lead to an opportunity to not have it run on start up.

try it, if you haven't already.
