Note the 30 second delay..this is the same 30 sec that I see in the system/startup..shutdown options. I do not understand why you have a 0 second delay?? how do you make a choice to boot primary if it defaults to something else and you have a 0 second delay??

I never made any changes to the startup/shutdown menu because nt booted without problems even after I did the nto (means backup copy of NT)install last weekend. These problems came up after the image restor of w98/Wnt0 and I also made another image of primary NT. Thats the third nt image I've made.
Ok I just changed timeout to 30 sec but there still are no options in the pulldown startup list.

It sure does look to my untrained eye like you have a single boot setup in primary boot.ini

I believe IDE 1 is supposed to be a single boot setup with the primary nt as the only option..right?
IDE 2 is the dual boot drive with w98 and nt0 as the options. I only posted the boot.ini file for IDE 1.

But there is thathidden PM clone of nt0 at the end of IDE 1. It is not supposed to an option during IDE 1 bootup but is somehow being booted instead.

ReZeuspaul's boot.ini

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00

Except for the trailing quote these two lines look identical. Is having the two of them necessary?
