I will not buy anything that is being hyped all over SI. I will especially avoid stocks that are mentioned or hyped by certain well-known scam artists here on SI. These scam artists are run out of this thread in short order when they appear. I don't buy "newsletter recs".

General rule of thumb: Buy before others discover, buy movers or news early (pull the trigger), sell when the masses are climbing over each other to buy. I find this works most of the time.
One other technique that works is when panic selling sets in on a quality stock, buy at the end of the day. The harder it falls, the higher it bounces the next morning... usually, anyhow.
