They have a couple, tommy. I just bought a Dell celeron for $1195, and it is a great machine. I agree though, that they could sell a lot more under one K. The problem is, could they make a buck with the support cost? Probably not.

Welcome, Tom. Dell is certainly losing unit market share by not having an entry in the consumer sub-1k market. I have no doubt that their competitors will make money on their sub1k's this year, though margins will be tight. It would seem that dell could use a Chinese low overhead sub to manufacture; with their direct fufillment model and brand name, they could do some serious damage to cpq, hwp, and ibm in the low end, just as they are doing in the enterprise space.

Glad you stopped by. I hope you'll give us some insight into your broad holdings. In particular, I've been considering emc for inclusion in my g&k portfolio. How do you rate their prospects for Gorilla-hood?
