Microsoft to buy Reed Elsevier?

Speculation is mounting that Microsoft is about to launch a bid for
the publishing company Reed Elsevier. Both parties have so far
refused to confirm or deny the rumour, but news sources claim
Microsoft is planning to launch a bid soon. The Daily Mirror claims
the offer could be worth up to £7 billion, valuing each share at
around £7 - well over their current value of under £5. The Daily
Telegraph quoted one analyst as saying: "If you can be the one-stop
shop for an industry for software and information, I think that'd be a pretty compelling argument."

Reed's extensive portfolio includes a number of magazines and
online information services, such as the business information service
