UP, I am very aware of the MKE/QNTM relationship, have referred to it and the strengths that each company brings to the partnership many times on this and other DD threads over the past couple of years. I was replying, though, to the claim stated on the Yahoo thread (linked in Marty's post) that MKE is one of the most rabidly nationalistic Japanese firms (I forget the exactly wording, but that was the gist of it). I still find it hard to believe that, if this is true, they would have been the company the QNTM sought out back in the early 80s (around 82 or 83, I believe) to partner with, or that MKE would have agreed to partner with them. Disk drive shops were opening right and left back then, as you are probably aware. That said, however, I have had no direct, or even second hand, dealings with MKE, so cannot either verify or falsify the claim.
