Chirodoc,

I dont forget that thats an option for MSFT. In fact that is what MSFT is trying right now with Banyan. They need Banyan's Streetalk technology for their Active Directory to give MSFT some catchup to the industry dominant NDS but they cannot buy the company to get it. I would not be surprised - and I am predicting - that MSFT will soon announce that it has licensed the Streetalk core code from Banyan.

That is not what MSFT would want to do, but Mr. Gates cannot do what he has been successful in doing before - buy out the small and innovative up-start and call it their own later. By licensing the technology, MSFT does not have as much control in the direction of their own destiny for the technology. They DO NOT prefer to deal with up-starts in this way and LACK OF OUTRIGHT CONTROL is the reason.

So Gates might be smart but MSFT's dynamics have dramatically changed now and it will be very interesting to see how Mr.Gates can deliver when he is now forced to play by the rules and is now being scrutinized for every little step he takes. His Glory Days are behind him and although Gates will always be a very very rich man, his company has some extremely difficult challenges ahead of it. The stockholders will realize that soon enough.
